Did you know that there are natural alternatives to antibiotics? Yes, it is possible to avoid antibiotics and use natural alternatives. I don’t remember using any antibiotic in the last 15 years at least! It was always herbal antibiotics before and for the past 6 years it’s been the homeopathic remedies that have totally changed our lives!
Did you know that antibiotic overuse is actually causing antibiotic resistance? Which means that those bacteria have learnt to adapt to your body and will no longer respond to those antibiotics. The sad part is when Doctors prescribe antibiotics without even confirming if it’s a bacterial infection! So many people that I know have been prescribed antibiotics for “viral” infection and most of the times without even confirming it! Viral infection is caused by viruses not bacteria so antibiotics are totally ineffective against viral infections. Antibiotics damage your gut flora which means it weakens your immunity and there is a high chance that you are now more prone to catching any viral or bacterial infections! It’s like a cascade, once you get into the antibiotic route there will always be recurring health issues. Yeast infection is a direct side effect of antibiotics so if you have taken antibiotic recently then you are prone to yeast infection too. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea are other immediate side effects of conventional antibiotics.
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of those conditions that do not respond to antibiotics and MRSA can be life threatening! The way people are being prescribed antibiotics these days I would not be surprised if there are more antibiotic resistance illnesses later.
So the best thing to do is to opt for natural alternatives! I saw many Moms asking for antibiotic detox in my Holistic Remedy Facebook Group so I thought about creating this blog post. I asked this in my group “What is it that you have taken or would take antibiotic for?” and I got these topics to write about.

Disclaimer: Since health issues like Pneumonia, MRSA, Cellulitis can be serious, I would like to mention that these are just the general antibiotic alternatives. It is your responsibility to do a thorough research or ask your Holistic Health Care Practitioner if you are dealing with any serious case of infection.
I would only be mentioning the remedies assuming that you have had your diagnosis already. Otherwise this post will be too long. I have also put direct links to buy those remedies as requested by some of the members in the group.
Pink eye or Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of conjuctiva which is usually caused by virus, bacteria or allergy but most of the times antibiotics is prescribed for this simple condition that usually resolves on it’s own with proper care.
Breastmilk works on all kinds of Pink eye. Just squirt some breastmilk directly into the kid’s affected eye. Do it several times a day for 2-3 days and you will see how it clears up (sometimes within 24 hours).
Herbal Compress made of Chamomile, Calendula or Euphrasia (Eyebright) is another wonderful remedy for pink eye!
Homeopathic remedy does wonders on pink eye!
Homeopathic Argentum Nitricum 30c(buy here) is an amazing remedy for Pink eye with a lot of discharge.
Euphrasia 30c (buy here) is wonderful for burning and itchy Pink eye.
Pulsatilla (buy here)30c if it spreads from one eye to the other.
Apis mel 30c(buy here) if there is any swelling on the eyelid present with hot and burning sensation.
Belladonna 30c (buy here) works well for bloodshot eyes with throbbing pain.
Cell salt Silica (also known as Silicea) is very effective too! Give Silica 6x every hour for up to 8 doses until all the symptoms clear up. It works even better if there is a feeling of foreign body in your eyes.
Stye
Stye is a painful eye condition caused by Staphylococcus auerus (Staph) bacteria but there are several homeopathic remedies that work wonders on Stye!
Pulsatilla 30c (buy here) for stye on upper lid with bland discharge but itching and burning sensation.
Staphysagria 30c if the stye is located at the corner of inner eye or even on upper eyelid, eye feels very hot and painful. Staphysagria is also indicated for recurrent styes.
Apis Mel 30c if the eyelid is red, hot and swollen.
You can also use Silicea 6x along with one of these remedies that matches your symptoms.
This is another area where antibiotic is heavily prescribed! Mother nature has so many natural remedies that have antibacterial properties that have no side effects if used with care.
Belladonna 30c is an excellent remedy for the initial stage of abscess! Red hot swollen gums with intense pain is a indicator for Belladonna. Also if the onset of abscess is sudden and violent then Belladonna is your go to remedy! This kind of pain sometimes even gives you a fever.
Myristica 30c works for abscess with swelling which is accompanied by numbness. I have found Mysritica very useful for almost all cases of severe abscess. I highly recommend keeping this remedy handy!
Silicea 6x can be taken every hour for up to 8 doses for a few days. It helps with drainage.
Pyrogenium 30c (this one) is very helpful when pus fails to drain and infection starts to spread. This is another remedy I highly recommend keeping handy! It prevents sepsis too!
Herbal remedies for tooth abscess or bleeding gums are Calendula, Myrrh or Goldenseal Tincture. You can gargle with one of these tinctures.
Turmeric sea salt gargle is another effective remedy for healing all kinds of oral infections.
I would be making another post soon for general toothache and tooth sensitivity without any abscess.
Urinary Tract Infection can be treated with the help of herbs, homeopathy and natural supplements so antibiotics are not required.
Foods and Herbs
Garlic
Garlic is nature’s antibiotic. You can take 2-3 raw garlic with each meal. It not only helps with UTI but also strengthens your immune system and protects you from the cold, cough and the flu.
Cranberry Juice
Cranberry Juice is an excellent remedy for UTI. Its antimicrobial properties make it a very effective UTI treatment.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is another gentle remedy to prevent and treat the symptoms of UTI. You can take 1-2 tbsp. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil daily to prevent UTI, boost your immunity and get healthy fats. But this will only help relieve the discomfort if taken after the onset of UTI. Take coconut oil to prevent UTI. Coconut water is amazing for UTI too!
Apple Cider Vinegar
Good old Apple cider vinegar has countless benefits and UTI is one of them. Drink 1 tbsp. Organic ACV with a glass of water 2-3 times a day to treat UTI.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C kills UTI bacteria and helps recover you quickly. Take 500mg Vitamin C 3 times a day for 3 days.
Probiotics
Probiotics can be very helpful in preventing and treating UTI. Have foods rich in Probiotics like Yogurt, Kefir, Sauerkraut, Kombucha.
Note: If you are taking conventional antibiotics to treat UTI then make sure to take Probiotics to restore healthy gut bacteria.
Uva Ursi Tea
Drink 2 cups of Uva Ursi tea a day not exceeding 7 days. Though Uva Ursi is safe in small dose during pregnancy I recommend using Homeopathy instead.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy can be a Godsend when it comes to treating UTI. It starts working within a few hours(sometimes even a few minutes) and it relieves your unbearable UTI pain first and then starts working towards healing the root cause of your bladder infection instead of just masking it like what conventional Antibiotics do.
Cantharis 30c (Buy here)
Homeopathic remedy Cantharis is wonderful in treating UTI. It works like a charm in relieving pain and restoring your bladder health.
Homeopathic Hydrastis(available here) is a natural antibiotic so you can use Hydrastis alone or along with the other remedies.
Strep throat is a bacterial infection caused by Streptococcus A bacteria and can cause life threatening complications if not treated on time.
Homeopathy works wonders on Strep infection!
Merc Sol 30c (this one)– Merc Sol works really well on Strep throat! Indications for Merc Sol are raw and sore throat and pain that extends to the ears, bad breath, excess salivation.
Hepar Sulph 30c(this one)– If there is a splinter like sensation in the throat, yellow phlegm, wet cough, swollen tonsils with pus then Hepar Sulph is the best remedy!
Phytolacca 30c– If your tonsils look dark bluish/purplish, shooting pain extending to the ears, continuous desire to swallow your saliva to feel better then Phytolacca is the best remedy!
Hydrastis 200c(buy here) -Hydrastis is a wonderful natural antibiotic that is effective for Strep throat.
Belladonna 30c is indicated in strep throat with very high fever.
If you just want to buy one remedy which is 100% effective then buy Streptococcinum 200c nosode. This remedy works on Strep throat regardless of the above mentioned symptoms because it is made from the same tissue (remember that there is no tissue or actual matter left in the final preparation of homeopathic remedies). This remedy also stimulates your body’s own healing ability in a way that it prevents future infections (if you are prone to recurring strep throat infection then consider this remedy).
You can also gargle with Apple Cider Vinegar, Raw Honey, Turmeric with a drop of Frankincense Essential Oil. Eat raw garlic as much as you can handle. But I highly recommend taking homeopathic remedy to make sure that it is healed from the root completely.
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the tissues lining the sinuses. It can be really painful and uncomfortable because it causes a severe pressure on your sinuses, terrible headache, toothache and congestion. Did you know that sinusitis is usually caused by viruses? Only few cases of sinusitis are caused by bacteria but Doctors prescribe antibiotics regardless of the cause. Some cases are even caused by allergies or deviated septum so antibiotics do not help those cases.
Here are my favorite natural remedies for sinus infection:
Spicy and pungent foods like horseradish, garlic, onion, ginger, mustard etc. You can make a sinus healing herbal paste by mixing ACV, yellow mustard seeds, horseradish, garlic, onion and sea salt. Make it at the first sign of sinus infection and store it in the fridge and finish it within a week. Take 1 Tbsp. every few hours until all the symptoms clear.
Lots of Vitamin C and Echinacea tincture.
Peppermint Tea is another remedy for clearing up the sinuses. Topically you can use diluted Peppermint and Lavender essential oils too. Don’t use Peppermint essential oil if you are using homeopathic remedies as it will antidote the remedies.
Homeopathy is another wonderful way to heal sinus infection!
Pulsatilla 30c for a sinus infection with green bland (non burning) discharge, person feels better in open air, pain above the eyes.
Merc Sol 30c is for a sinus infection where the discharge is yellowish green and acrid (burning), bad breath, excess salivation.
Hepar Sulph 30c is for a sinus infection with soreness on the scalp, shooting pain extends to the ears.
Kali Bich 200c (buy here) for a late stage infection where the discharge is thick and ropy, nose totally blocked causing breathing difficulties, pain above the eyes.
Hydrastis 200c (this brand, c and ck are the same) Hydrastis is one of the most powerful natural antibiotic so I highly recommend keeping it handy! It works by helping with drainage and stimulating your body to heal itself.
Impetigo is a contagious skin infection caused by one of the 2 bacteria, Staphylococcus or Streptococcus. Impetigo can be treated with Homeopathy.
Antimonium Crudum 200c(this one, c and ck is the same thing) works really well on Impetigo because the eruptions and symptoms match the remedy.
If there is an intense burning feeling then look into Arsenicum 30c.
Nosodes Staphylococcus 200c and Streptococcus 1 dose each at a gap of 12 hours (gap between these 2 nosodes)
Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that can cause serious issues if not treated on time. If you have been diagnosed with cellulitis and if you do not have these remedies on hand/ or if you can’t buy it locally then do not order the remedies online. Cellulitis can quickly turn into sepsis which is life threatening. See your health care practitioner soon.
Homeopathic Apis Mel 30c for Cellulitis with red, hot and swollen infection. Cellulitis spreads quickly so the swollen part starts to get bigger and bigger really quickly.
Ledum Pal 30c for Cellulitis caused by insect bites. Yes, insect bites can get infected and cause serious issues if it turns into untreated cellulitis. Give every few hours for 3 days.
If it is in the pus stage then Silicea/Silica 30c is highly effective! Give every few hours for a few days.
Pyrogenium 30c or 200c (this one) to prevent sepsis if it is already in the pus stage and is getting bigger. Fever is a marked indicator for Pyrogenium. Though Pyrogenium works on Sepsis, if fever is present then definitely see your health care provider to be on the safer side. Fever is a sign that the infection is getting into your bloodstream causing sepsis.
Staph is a skin infection caused by Staphylococcus bacteria. If you are prone to Staph and MRSA then I highly recommend looking into your Homeopathic constitution to strengthen it so you don’t get it frequently.
My daughter got Staph infection 3 times in the first 3 years but every time I used these homeopathic remedies and healed her painful infection. She no longer gets it now after a dose of Staph nosode! I also gave her Homeopathic constitutional remedy so that has helped too.
Homeopathic remedies for Staph and MRSA infection:
Berberis Vulgaris 30c(buy here) blood and liver cleanser so the infection heals soon.
Calc Sulph 6x– Blood purifier.
Hydrastis 200c potent natural antibiotic.
Calendula 30c for skin healing.
Silica 30c to drain the pus and speed up healing.
Also look into Staphylococcus Aureus Nosode and MRSA nosode. Dr. Banerjee has a MRSA Proctocol so look into that too.
For topical relief use Turmeric and raw honey paste. Mix some turmeric with honey to make a thick paste and apply 2-3 times a day. You can also drink turmeric raw honey drink with some ginger.
If you have been diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis then there is no need to panic!
BV can be treated with Homeopathy.
These are the most effective remedies for Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)!
Sepia 30c(this one) If you are prone to Bacterial vaginosis then look into Sepia. Sepia is a women’s remedy and is used for hormonal and reproductive organ related issues like fertility, PMS, recurrent BV, yeast infection etc. There is a bearing down sensation in the uterus, person who needs Sepia is highly irritable and desires to be left lone.
Sanicula Aqua 30c (don’t confuse it with Sanicula Europaea which is a a different remedy) If there is a fish brine odor along with canker sores on your tongue and severe lower backache then Sanicula works amazingly well!
Pulsatilla 30c if your BV is accompanied with extreme mood swing and sensitivity. Pulsatilla is another women’s remedy which is indicated for highly sensitive women. Person needing Pulsatilla cries easily, needs company, feels better in open air.
Hydrastis 200c Natural antibiotic.
Also make sure to keep the vaginal flora balanced because absence of good bacteria caused by too much acidic environment is what makes you prone to all kinds of infections including BV. For topical relief you can use Raw Coconut Oil(this brand) after washing with Apple Cider Vinegar(this one) mixed water (2 Tbsp in 8 oz water). Echinacea is a a good herbal remedy for BV too!
Pneumonia is a serious lung infection caused by virus, bacteria or fungus. If you have been diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia then you can try these remedies along with your health care practitioner’s suggestions. Pneumonia is a serious illness so it’s better to take holistic health care provider’s help and use these as additional help.
Vitamin C
Load up on Vitamin C as much as you can! Vitamin C is one of the best remedies for pneumonia!It will work on viral as well as bacterial pneumonia.
High potency Turmeric/Curcumin Supplement(this one) as turmeric is a potent antibacterial herb.
Holy Basil tea. Just add hot water to a tbsp of fresh or dried holy basil, let it infuse for 15 minutes and drink. Drink several cups a day.
Fenugreek tea as it is a strong decongestant. Just soak some fenugreek seeds in hot water for a few hours and drink.
Homeopathic Hydrastis 200c
Look into Pneumonoc0ccinum 200c.
There are several homeopathic remedies for Pneumonia based on different stages and symptoms so look into Aconite, Bryonia, Phosphorus, Sangunaria, Kali Carb and Ant tart. Select the remedies based on your symptoms.
